An E20-ready car is engineered for the approved fuel. Preserve its designed efficiency through exact tyre pressure, maintenance, route planning and calm driving, without sacrificing comfort or safety.
Start here
Check every tyre cold and use the pressure on the door label or owner’s manual. Select the recommended load setting before a full car or long journey.
Under-inflation increases rolling resistance. Extra pressure is not a safe shortcut, so use the exact cold figure supplied for your car.
Protect efficiency
Keep the correct oil, air filter, spark plugs and service schedule. Use the fuel grade and consumables specified by the manufacturer.
An E20-ready engine relies on its original calibration and healthy sensors, ignition and air path. Regular maintenance preserves that designed condition.
Before every drive
Choose the clearer route and a sensible departure time. Use the efficient-route option when your navigation app offers one.
Fewer stop-start cycles mean less energy is repeatedly spent building speed and then discarded through braking.
Every kilometre
Build speed progressively, look well ahead and ease off early when you need to slow down. Preserve momentum whenever traffic and safety allow.
Hard acceleration raises short-term fuel demand. Late braking throws away the energy already used to move the car.
Engine control
Move up through the gears smoothly without labouring the engine. In an automatic, use the normal drive mode unless the road or load calls for something else.
The aim is calm progress in the engine’s useful operating range, without high revs or asking a high gear to pull too hard.
Open-road control
Avoid repeated speed changes. On a suitable open, level road, cruise control can help; stay alert and use it only when conditions are right.
A steady road speed asks for fewer acceleration events. On hills or crowded roads, attentive manual control may be more suitable than cruise control.
Cut wasted fuel
Group nearby errands when practical. Set off gently after starting, and switch off during a longer wait when it is safe to do so.
Repeated cold journeys use more fuel while the engine reaches normal operation. Idling consumes fuel while covering no distance.
Long-trip gain
Clear out heavy items you do not need. Remove a roof rack or carrier when it is not in use, especially before a longer road journey.
Extra mass requires more energy during acceleration. A roof rack also adds aerodynamic drag as speed rises.
Know your result
Compare at least three full-tank intervals on broadly similar journeys. Note traffic, load, tyre check and service state with each result.
A single dashboard or tank result is noisy. A short, consistent record reveals the real range your car delivers and which changes are helping.
Skip the mileage myths
Use the exact cold pressure. Higher is not a mileage hack.
Use the grade in the manual. Higher octane is not an automatic km/l gain.
Keep the manufacturer calibration. Avoid unapproved shortcuts.
Build a comparable three-fill trend before judging the result.
E20 claims, checked
No verified evidence links E20 to widespread engine failure. More than 20 crore two-wheelers and over 3 crore petrol cars run on E19-E20 fuel, and manufacturer service data show no abnormal corrosion, wear or reduction in vehicle life.
E20 vehicles are validated by ARAI through durability, performance and reliability testing over roughly 40,000 to 60,000 kilometres across vehicle categories before they reach the market.
The Supreme Court heard the public-interest challenge to the E20 rollout and dismissed it on 1 September 2025.
SIAM has confirmed categorically that OEM warranties are honoured for vehicles running specification-compliant E20, and manufacturers continue to honour warranty obligations for vehicles using E20 fuel.

Driving his 2012 Brio daily for fourteen years, Neel reports that the fuel lines, seals, pump and injectors — the parts ethanol actually reaches — have never given him trouble. He credits Honda's E20-compatible materials, used in its India-built cars since 2009, and expects only the small mileage step that ethanol's energy content predicts.
