An E20-ready car is engineered for the approved fuel. Preserve its designed efficiency through maintenance, route planning and calm driving. Your selected car's tyre-pressure panel stays specific to its sourced fitment and load condition.

01Maintenance

Protect efficiency

Protect the car’s designed efficiency

Keep the correct oil, air filter, spark plugs and service schedule. Use the fuel grade and consumables specified by the manufacturer.

Why this helps

An E20-ready engine relies on its original calibration and healthy sensors, ignition and air path. Regular maintenance preserves that designed condition.

02Route

Before every drive

Plan around traffic before you leave

Choose the clearer route and a sensible departure time. Use the efficient-route option when your navigation app offers one.

Why this helps

Fewer stop-start cycles mean less energy is repeatedly spent building speed and then discarded through braking.

03Driving

Every kilometre

Accelerate smoothly and brake early

Build speed progressively, look well ahead and ease off early when you need to slow down. Preserve momentum whenever traffic and safety allow.

Why this helps

Hard acceleration raises short-term fuel demand. Late braking throws away the energy already used to move the car.

04Driving

Engine control

Choose the right gear and revs

Move up through the gears smoothly without labouring the engine. In an automatic, use the normal drive mode unless the road or load calls for something else.

Why this helps

The aim is calm progress in the engine’s useful operating range, without high revs or asking a high gear to pull too hard.

05Cruising

Open-road control

Keep a steady, legal speed

Avoid repeated speed changes. On a suitable open, level road, cruise control can help; stay alert and use it only when conditions are right.

Why this helps

A steady road speed asks for fewer acceleration events. On hills or crowded roads, attentive manual control may be more suitable than cruise control.

06Journey

Cut wasted fuel

Combine short trips and avoid long idling

Group nearby errands when practical. Set off gently after starting, and switch off during a longer wait when it is safe to do so.

Why this helps

Repeated cold journeys use more fuel while the engine reaches normal operation. Idling consumes fuel while covering no distance.

07Load

Long-trip gain

Remove unused weight and roof racks

Clear out heavy items you do not need. Remove a roof rack or carrier when it is not in use, especially before a longer road journey.

Why this helps

Extra mass requires more energy during acceleration. A roof rack also adds aerodynamic drag as speed rises.

08Measure

Know your result

Measure your own result

Compare at least three full-tank intervals on broadly similar journeys. Note traffic, load, tyre check and service state with each result.

Why this helps

A single dashboard or tank result is noisy. A short, consistent record reveals the real range your car delivers and which changes are helping.

Fourteen years and 2.24 lakh km without a fuel-system failure

Driving his 2012 Brio daily for fourteen years, Neel reports that the fuel lines, seals, pump and injectors, the parts ethanol actually reaches, have never given him trouble. He credits Honda's E20-compatible materials, used in its India-built cars since 2009, and expects only the small mileage step that ethanol's energy content predicts.

Regular E20 petrol now runs his TSI like the premium fuel did

After a year of comparing fuels in his octane-sensitive TSI, the owner found that regular E20 petrol from April 2026 onward gave the same smooth, quiet running he had been paying ₹7-8 extra per litre for. He also puts on record that his fuel efficiency never changed across fuel types, brands and ethanol blends.

Mileage mythsThree shortcuts that do not improve the real result+

Premium petrol for every car: Use the grade in the manual. Higher octane is not an automatic km/l gain.

Additives and remaps: Keep the manufacturer calibration. Avoid unapproved shortcuts.

One tank proves everything: Build a comparable three-fill trend before judging the result.
