The national record
Ethanol blending rose from under 1.5% in 2013-14 to 10% in June 2022 , five months ahead of schedule, and to 20% in ethanol supply year 2025-26. The figures below are the government's own, each linked to the published document behind it.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reports 20% ethanol blending in 2025-26, against an original target of 2030. Production capacity grew from 421 crore litres in 2014 to about 2,000 crore litres in 2026.

E20 guidance for older cars
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reports more than 3 crore petrol cars operating on E19-E20 fuel. Its published material also discusses mileage, vehicle life and service.
The ministry's clarification adds one routine service note: in certain older vehicles, some rubber parts and gaskets may need earlier replacement, an inexpensive item, handled during routine servicing at any authorised workshop (MoPNG, 12 August 2025). Mention it at your next service and the question is closed.
