Short answer
E20 can change mileage a little, and there is no single figure for every car. Engine design and tuning, traffic, tyre pressure, servicing and driving style all move the number.

What the published record says
The 2021 NITI Aayog roadmap published planning ranges by vehicle design and calibration; a July 2026 Ministry release says reductions in some E10-designed vehicles are generally about 3-5% and rejects claims of a universal drastic loss.
Why this is the answer
The roadmap estimated 6-7% for four-wheelers designed for E0 and calibrated for E10, 3-4% for similarly calibrated two-wheelers, and 1-2% for four-wheelers designed for E10 and calibrated for E20.
Those are planning figures for a class of car, not for your tank. Your own fill-to-fill readings over a few tanks show what your car does.
Important limits
- The 2021 ranges were written before today's engine tuning and before crores of cars had run on E20.
- A dashboard estimate or one partial fill does not tell you your mileage.
