E20 engine damage
Will E20 damage my engine?

Short answer
The Government's July 2026 position says testing and field evidence have not established widespread abnormal wear, corrosion or compatibility problems attributable to specification-compliant E20. That does not diagnose an individual vehicle symptom or rule out an unrelated mechanical or fuel-quality fault.
Published Government position
What the published record says
The Ministry reports that laboratory validation, field experience and manufacturer service data have not shown a widespread E20-attributable pattern of engine failure or abnormal component wear.
Why this is the answer
ARAI describes durability, performance and reliability testing of E20-compatible vehicles, including fuel-system and engine components.
For a specific symptom, preserve the fuel receipt and diagnostic record and ask the vehicle manufacturer and the fuel company to assess the evidence. Timing alone cannot establish the cause.
Important limits
- Use the fuel grade and maintenance instructions specified for the exact vehicle.
- Contamination, a pre-existing defect and normal component failure require their own evidence and diagnosis.
